We now offer GPR surveys in Latvia!

News

We are very pleased to announce that from 2024 we have also expanded our operations to our southern neighbors, Latvia. This is an important step for us, which allows us to offer our long-term experience and cutting-edge technology to a new market. The first successful ground-penetrating radar surveys in Latvia have already been carried out, including in Stelpe, Tukums and Gulbene. In total, we have already conducted surveys there on over 300 hectares.

Construction of solar parks and hidden challenges

Similar to Estonia, Latvia is currently experiencing a solar energy boom, and new solar power plants are being actively built across the country. Large solar parks are often built on former farmland and meadows, which at first glance seem empty and suitable. However, these areas often contain a decades-old, but still functioning and important drainage system. It consists of underground drainage pipes that collect and drain excess water, keeping the land suitable for agricultural use.

The problem arises when thousands of piles are driven into the ground to install solar panels. There is a great risk of breaking these important pipes due to ignorance. Damaging the drainage system can make the plot of land marshy and unusable and cause problems with the water regime in the entire surrounding area.

GPR is the solution

To avoid this, it is necessary to know exactly where the drainage pipes are located before construction begins. This is where a georadar survey comes in handy. Our equipment allows us to “see” underground pipes and map the entire drainage network without breaking the ground. As a result of the survey, the customer receives an accurate digital map, based on which it is possible to install the foundations of the panels without damaging the pipes. This ensures both the smooth construction of the solar park and the long-term functionality of the drainage system.

We have been successfully using the same methodology for solar park developers in Estonia for many years and our experience and knowledge in mapping drainage systems is extensive. Starting in 2024, we will now also apply this proven solution to development projects in Latvia, contributing to the birth of new renewable energy projects while ensuring the preservation of existing infrastructure.
